A definite MUST HAVE album for all followers of classic Texas metal in the vein of HELSTAR, JUGGERNAUT or even a bit more straightened WATCHTOWER. MILITIA, the long lost heroes of the scene with part time WATCHTOWER crooner Mike Soliz on vocals are back with their first brandnew compositions in about 25 years. And somehow they managed to keep the fresh and epic spirit of the 80s technical metal scene of their US federal state alive in their current songs and even outplay their old stuff in the one or another way. The utterly complex and technical structures based on infernally heavy riffing and quite many changes in mood, pace and passages build a solid base for the bright, high pitched and very charismatic vocals and the haunting, epic melodies that ride upon the massive instrumental patterns. This is metal that goes beyond the generic headbanging style, this is thinking man`s metal. The sound is very raw and unpolished, but it fits well with the powerful tunes this band penned for the new album. If you need a comparison, I`d say HELSTAR and “Remnants of war”, for I often feel like chanting “Suicidal nightmare” when the raging axework hits me with insane chord progressions and those simmering melodies. As I said, a must have for each fan of classic Texas techno metal and an instant classic for the current decade. Sir Lord Doom
